Story

I was driving up the highway when I saw a car along the side of the road. The woman behind the wheel had her head in her hands. When I came back by an hour later she was gone. The car was still there. I thought, "Welcome to the New World."

Lyrics

There's a fox in the hen house There's a bomb on the plane Someone that you don't know Is whispering your name Into somebody's voice mail Or an answering machine Welcome to the New World You don't look out your windows You don't pick up the phone You don't want anyone to know That you're there all alone Are those headlights in the driveway? Did somebody scream? Welcome to the New World There's a woman in a car On the side of the road Head in her hands And no place left to go Her job's on the line And now the engine blew There's nothing in her handbag But a silver .22 There's a stray dog on the street People sleeping in the woods The man standing in the shadows He ain't up to any good Pickin's are getting slim Everybody wants their share Welcome to the New World There's a woman in a car On the side of the road Head in her hands And no place left to go She needs to blame somebody And all she sees is you She reaches in her handbag For that silver .22 Welcome to the New World Welcome to the New World
